The Cinephile’s after-holiday list

  1. Paul Thomas Anderson A new Paul Thomas Anderson film—There is always a huge gap between director Paul Thomas Anderson’s films. He takes his time, but it’s most often worth the wait, as he has amassed one of the most consistently interesting resumes of our time: Hard Eight (1996), Boogie Nights (1997), Magnolia (1999), Punch-Drunk Love (2002) and There Will be Blood (2007) all speak for themselves. You can understand how excited I was to hear that PTA was working on The Master, set to be released in 2011. Alas, I shall go PTA-less, as it was announced that The Master has been post-poned indefinitely (read: Dead in the water). It looks like I have to settle on just getting a new Coen Brothers film, this year. I hate settling.
  2. Media Room My own home theatre—I LOVE going to the movies. Love it. I love the overpriced candy and the radioactive, popcorn ooze. I love the dimming of the lights and the hush of the audience (hopefully) as the trailers begin to roll. I must, nay, NEED to be able to recreate this experience in my home. Plus, every star I’ve ever seen on Cribs has one.
  3. Ford Mustang—Three words: Steve, McQueen, Bullit.
  4. For everything on Netflix to be streaming—I know they’re working their way towards it, but boy am I impatient! I need that pagan fat man to speed things up because Netflix streaming is a revelation, not to mention the absurd amount of money it’s saving me on purchasing DVDs (sorry manufacturers. . . and retail outlets. . . and movie studios. But not really.).
  5. Lastly, I must ask for the ability to stop time so that I can watch every movie ever made without losing any time. I ask for that every year.

  1. […] my post-holiday wish list, wherein I mention my desire to freeze time so that I can catch up on EVERY FILM EVER MADE without losing any time?  Well, Netflix can do little about time—which makes fools of us […]

  2. […] apparently The Master is back on! It looks like I got my Christmas wish from last year after all! I just had to be patient, which is a virtue I have in spades. WHAT?! It’s STILL in post?! […]
